Stim Toy!
Or, I feel a new perseveration coming on. For the last few days I've had a pair of Vise-Grip pliers sitting on the desk by me. They are not the original kind, being made by Stanley in Taiwan. As a stim toy, I think they are superior to the original. They are plated, and thus shiny, but not smooth. I think they were bead-blasted or something before being plated. Anyway, that gives them a nice texture on which to rub fingers, and a really cool speckly reflection of the light. They are so much fun to play with! I open and shut them, tighten and loosen the screw, heft their substantial mass in my hand, close them almost shut and try for Young's effect, gaze at the subtle depressions left by the stamping process... I could go on and on.
There's a problem though. Now that I have developed this fondness, I am strangely reluctant to actually use this tool as a tool. Might mar the shininess, y'know.
I wonder if there is an association of Vise-Grip collectors.

What's Young's effect.
Young's effect, IIRC, is what you get when you shine a light through a very narrow slot against a screen, and seen bright lines on the screen instead of a diffuse illumination of the whole screen.
Anonymous, didn't you have any Physics when in school?
I absolutely cannot have any stim toys. I'm useless as it is. Update: H says the blog is a stim toy. Dammit.
I picked up a couple of rocks last time I was at Autreat. They're both 2 or 3 cubic inches large, oblong, and made of marble. Some cool colored 'cracks' in them. Not really cracks, just coloration. They look like they were rounded by spending a long time in sand and water. They make great "worry stones", and I'm trying to polish them, just rubbing them with my hands. Not too shiny yet, though. What, me worry? ;-)
I found this extremely funny, I had some grips once that I didn't want to use. I now have a bowl full of rubber bouncy balls, that I will not bouncy. Reason being, they are all so lovely and shiny and I don't want them dented. I have one with glitter inside, that I just love to spin and watch the glitter swirl in front of my eyes. I think I maybe weirder than you.
Love and hugs. x
