On Reading "The Sum of All Fears" Again

I wanted some lightweight lit to put me to sleep the other night, so I borrowed housemate's copy of that Tom Clancy book. Now that the Stupor Bowel is coming up right soon, I can't help thinking what I thought the first time I read the thing, that is:

"Why do you write about nuking the Super Bowl as if that were a _bad_ thing?"

I would have felt bad for the bandsmen who got nuked, but learned later that they haven't had bandsmen at Super Bowls for years and years.

Fuck football. Baseball is the National Game.
